I have a single user with a Windows 8. He uses a Microsoft Account to login. He said it will boot up to the lockscreen. He will click the mouse or swipe up and instead of the login prompt, he just gets a colored screen with no password prompt. Reboots do not help. I've managed to get Windows 8 into safe mode by mashing F8 like normal, but some machines running EFI I've only managed to get it into safe mode by pressing Shift and mashing F8 to show "Recovery".

Under Advanced its a few menus deep. It also boots Recovery when you hold shift on the Restart or Shutdown button, but you probably don't see that on the login - but future reference so you know haha. What I really meant was, has the PC been turned on and just left alone? If he has tried for days, does that mean he turned it on and left it? There was a recent post about a similar issue with Windows 7. It turned out to be an external connection. Is this laptop connected to an external monitor or KVM or anything?
